Here are the values & principles that make Rabid Turtle Records spin:

Make Tangible Artifacts:

Here at RTR we’re all crate-diggers, record store junkies, elder scene kids, and aging tape heads, so we know first-hand the love and importance of that short-run mix-tape with the hand-drawn liner notes you picked up from that weird band.
We believe that artifacts like these are a tangible document that allows artists to say “I was here, doing my thing” and they allow fans to say “I see you.”
Plus they’re just plain cool.

We’re Stronger in Community:

The old “it takes a village” saying might be cliche but that doesn’t make it any less true.
It takes a lot of people to make music happen. When artists know they have a supportive community around them, they’re able to take those creative risks and do those awesome things.
Here at RTR we’re intentional about not only building a rabid community of fans but in giving back to our local and regional scenes across genre lines in “boots-on-the-ground” ways to help build our musical community.

Stay Lean, Stay Independent:

All of us at RTR started out in DIY underground bands.
We know the ups and downs of getting in a van to drive across the country to share the new record with people.
We were only able to do this through lean business models that would never work within the corporate music machine.
We come from the Minutemen’s “We Jam Econo” school of music business and lot of our economic ideas reflect a “Small is Beautiful” approach. Check out Our Band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azerrad (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Band_Could_Be_Your_Life) and Small is Beautiful by E.F. Schumacher (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_Is_Beautiful) for more info.

Always Put the Artist First:

Music doesn’t exist without the people who make it.
We’re proudly a record label run by folks who are themselves artists, songwriters, and musicians, and we believe strongly in allowing our artists the freedom to make their own choices about their music.

Be Kind:

We’re proudly a regional label and folks running RTR are all deeply Midwestern. Ope.
We’re all generally pretty nice, polite people who believe in treating others the way you want to be treated.
Rabid Turtle Records is a labor of love for us as we try to make our little slice of the world a better place by sharing music. If you’re looking for hate, phobias of people who are different from you, negative “-isms”, etc., you’ve come to the wrong place.
